Put on your running shoes and join the Sponsor Iraqi Children Foundation (SICF) for a fun, family-friendly 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 4, 2013, to raise funds to help Iraqi orphans and street children. The race will be held at Burke Lake Park in Fairfax County, Virginia, at 8 am.
“We named this race ‘In Their Shoes’ because for one day, we are symbolically walking and running in the shoes of these extremely vulnerable children,” said Pat Bergstresser, SICF Advisory Board Member.
SICF is working with local area students to mobilize turnout for the run/walk as well as recruit participants to raise funds online. SICF’s goal for this springtime event at beautiful Burke Lake Park in Fairfax County is to raise $25,000.
“All of the funds – 100% – raised through corporate sponsorships and online fundraising by runners will go to Iraq to feed, tutor, and provide emotional care and support for orphans and street children in Iraq after years of war and violence,” said Betsy Phillips, SICF Board Member.
Registration fees for participants is $20 per person or $40 for a family package and includes a colorful SICF t-shirt and water. The run/walk begins at 8am at Shelter A. Prizes will be awarded for the first runner to cross the finish line as well as for the individual who recruits the most participants and the individual who raises the most support online for Iraqi orphans and street children.
